We often make great efforts to select a cake to make our moments memorable. And why not!! Cakes are an indispensable part of our celebrations, right from deciding the flavor to finalizing the theme to selecting the color. Needless to say the presentation of the cake is just as important as the taste of the cake.
An integral part of the cake is the Cake Board. However, it is also the most underplayed element of the Cake Décor. Proper selection of the cake board and integrating it with the look of the Cake is vital to make an everlasting impression.
Here are a few suggestions on how to make your Cake Board look more glamorous to complement your lovely Cake.
Cake Boards are available in various shapes, sizes and materials. Choose the right size so there is enough space around the edges of the cake to easily handle it and transport it. Also match the shape of the Cake Board with the shape of the Cake. A square cake on a round Cake Board would surely not look nice.
Cake Boards are available in various materials like Cardboard Paper, Acrylic, Plastic etc. One could use the disposable or multi use Cake Boards as per the requirement.
Coordinating the color of the Cake Board with the color scheme of the cake is essential. One could buy a Cake Board in matching color or also use fondant or cream to get the desired color.
Mix 1 or 2 drops of gel food color to fondant and roll out a thin layer. Place your Cake board and trim away any extra. Now apply some melted chocolate or sprinkle very few drops of water and pat the fondant on the board. Let it dry.
Alternately, mix 1 or 2 drops of gel food color in whipped cream to get the desired shade. Now using an offset spatula cover the board with the cream and even it out. Remember not to put too thin or too thick a layer. Use just enough cream to spread an even layer.
To add more appeal one could try creating a pattern or texture. Textured rolling pins are available in the market for fondant textures. Otherwise, a simple fork or serrated cream smoothers can also be used to make any pattern or design.
To make your Cake Board more lively and interesting, try using Flowers, Chocolate balls/ garnishes, Rice Paper sails, ribbon bows etc. taking care to match it with the theme and look of the cake. One could also use Sparklers, edible sugar vermicelli, gems or brush some edible luster to add extra sheen and glamour to the cake.
Instead of writing Happy Birthday or any message on the Cake, try writing it on the Cake Board. One can use Fondant cutters to carve out the alphabets and place them evenly around the cake. One could also cut out any shape of fondant and write with edible ink pens. Also try using neutral gel, mix a few drops of water and gel color till one gets a smooth consistency. Now pour in a piping bag, snip the tip and write freehand on the board.
